…That About Sums It Up

Let’s make no mistake about this: the better team won tonight. The better team, the better players, the better coach, the better fans… you name it, Cleveland had it all over D.C. in the first round for the third straight year.

I give credit to Antawn Jamison and Caron Butler for laying down the gag order on certain idiot teammates after Game 5, and they looked like the only good sports wearing white in Washington (and again that counts the idiot Wizards fans, who I’ll get to in a second). I have always liked them when the Cavs weren’t playing the Wiz, and tonight reminded me of why. Classy gentlemen, even when they’re giving hard fouls. Wish I could say the same thing about the loudmouth scrubs wearing 33 and 2 in white.

As for the Washington faithful… I will try not to kick Wizards fans when they’re down… at least not too hard. The fact of the matter is that Wizards fans were booing one of the two best players in the game because a journeyman guard called him overrated a month ago, which is just as idiotic as it sounds. They couldn’t think to chant “OVER-RATE-ED”  on their own when Lebron was at the line, they needed to take their cues from their PA announcers, who Mike Tirico even said before Game 4 were actively coaching their crowd. I find it to be no coincidence whatsoever that the white shirts they gave every fan at the Phone Booth made it look like a sea of sheep in the nation’s capital. Tirico put it brilliantly on the Game 4 telecast when he said, “they’re not Duke fans, here.” Get original or get out, Wizards fans. I look for much better from Boston fans next round.

As for the Cavs… great outside shooting, great passing, great big win. I like the defensive matchups Mike Brown dialed up after the first and he really got his bigs to tighten up on the defensive glass. Two solid moves by Coach Big Head. The one thing I didn’t like was Lebron in until the 1:54 mark… when that lead hit 20 early in the 4th, that should’ve been all she wrote for James in Game 6. Risking injury with a hothead with a motive like De-yawn was just asking for trouble, especially with rumors from Brian Windhorst late last week that Stevenson was thinking about headhunting if an elimination game was getting out of the Wizards’ reach. No need to gamble your playoff future to prove a point.

Other than that… survive and advance. I hope the Cavs get the Wizards in the 1st round for the next 10 years. I really do.
